Time Team in the Cotswolds
Time Team have combined once more with Operation Nightingale for an archeological dig in the Cotswolds. Old friends and new combined to unearth Roman and Anglo Saxon finds and Soundview’s head of post production was there to produce daily content and provide production support.
Mud
Chris set off on a week long dig with his edit suite in tow to provide daily updates covering all the finds as they were unearthed. Having edited in many remote locations, and knowing the challenges that might bring, this time he brought a new innovation to protect the edit suite from the heavy rain and moisture…a beach shelter! And it certainly came into its own. From day one, rain was coming through the main marquee and mud was starting to form. Thanks to this lo-fi innovation, Time Team will also be investing in several beach shelters to protect cameras and kit from the British weather in future. Sometimes the simple solutions are the best ones.
Sweat
In the first few days, sheltering from heavy down pours, it looked like the team would be up against it, but by the middle of the week the sun finally turned up, chasing away the storm clouds and the dig gained momentum, unearthing three graves and a possible forth. On the latter an intriguing stone marker appeared to be covering the grave. Or is it something else altogether? We will find out by the the end of the dig. For the archaeologists digging in all weather is a challenge. The sun coming out is a case of good news, bad news. As the temperature rises, the heavy and physical work takes its toll – regular breaks and lots of water the order of the day.
Beers
It’s a Time Team tradition to record a “pub scene” at the end of some days. This production technique allows for the team to recap on the story so far, and look ahead to what’s coming up. It also provides the whole crew with some welcome refreshments. Unfortunately there was not a pub on site this time, but that didn’t stop the team from coming together with Henry the landowner and watching England bring it home from Henry’s very own farmhouse!
