Latest Video from Plymouth History Centre

This is the latest in our series of films capturing the exciting creation of the Plymouth History Centre. Each film is a chapter in the story of the project as it happens and is told via video, graphics and a timeline.

When the new History Centre opens in 2020, it will incorporate the historic frontage of the City Museum and Art Gallery With a new extension and will provide visitors and the people of Plymouth with inspiring new ways to access the City’s great history and national significance.

Our series of films will document the build from the earliest stages to the grand opening in 2020. They help explain what’s going on step-by-step. In addition, they will be a long-term record of the development. And our latest film brings us up to date with the project’s progress from January to March 2017.

Firstly, ‘groundbreaking January’ shows us the ceremony, officially marking the start of building and construction. Next, we see that Tavistock Place has now closed. This busy area near the University is cordoned off from the public and the construction office is now in place. As a result, the site’s ready for work, which began in February, with various outbuildings being demolished around St. Luke’s Church.

Also, the ‘Museum on Tour‘ continues with the addition of a new temporary exhibition at the Council House. Whilst the Barbican Theatre brings a theatrical walking tours project ‘Ropewalks’ to the city, these events will be appearing in various locations, in and around the city of Plymouth.
