The 7 AM Club
Soundview put our swimming gear on for a shoot with the 7 AM club: a group of swimmers that meet up twice a week all year round to go for a swim at Tinside Cove in Plymouth. Easy to spot in their bright pink gear, the 7 AM club are the perfect example of how you can take advantage of natural surroundings. October 10th is World Mental Health Day and swimming is a great way to maintain your health, have fun, increase your confidence and meet new people all for free!
Plymouth’s Maritime History
Soundview collaborated with The Box and Plymouth Sound National Marine Park to create a pop-up cinema with archival footage. The film showed scores of enthusiastic swimmers under the backdrop of the very same Tinside Cove – from 100 years ago! People have been forming swimming clubs in Plymouth for over a century and we were fortunate enough to have access to the footage and to showcase it, much to the delight of the modern swimmers in the room.
The film sparked plenty of lively conversation about the differences and similarities between a century ago and today. Be it people enjoying the physical benefits, the social aspects or simply splashing each other.
Just Keep Swimming
It is a huge privilege to be able to access archival footage. Not only as it allows us to facilitate unique events such as this, but it also enables us to preserve and appreciate the smaller parts of our history. We are proud to have documented this special day – who knows who might be watching it in 100 years time.
