Safer Internet Day 2017
Safer Internet Day 2017 and SID TV. This is an annual event. Millions of children and young people participate in activities that help them learn about safe use of the internet. Next year, Safer Internet Day will be held on February 9 2017.
This global event is coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre. The celebration sees hundreds of organisations unite in order to raise awareness of online safety issues. To ensure this, they organise events and activities right across the UK. Last year Safer Internet Day helped 40% of schoolchildren in the UK (that’s 2.8 million) learn how to negotiate the digital world more safely.
Soundview and SID TV
Soundview is currently in production of SID TV 2017. SID TV (Safer Internet Day TV) is a series of programmes for UK schoolchildren, watched all over the country in schools on Safer Internet Day. The series of videos are created for different key stages. Importantly, they all have the same message: how to use the internet more safely.
And this week, we have been filming in primary schools, secondary schools and in Plymouth City Centre for SID TV. We have had a lot of fun, but there is a serious message and in 2017 the message is : ‘Be the change: unite for a better internet’.
Essentially, children and young people understand, through our video and discussion, how important it is to think about their online presence. We found different ways to illustrate this to different age groups. And we are even in the process of producing a video for parents.
Of course, we can’t give too much away about what we’ve been doing. However, we can say that we met with Red and Murphy this week, the stars of previous videos for SID TV!
We have produced SID TV for three years. If you want to know more, you can see some our blogs from 2016 here:
