The Brief
The team at WCL Storage Systems asked us to create a construction project time-lapse of their transformation of an empty warehouse in Bude, Cornwall into fully functioning storage units. The ambitious project itself was three months long and Soundview‘s brief was to condense the whole process down to a couple of minutes – with the power of time-lapse. Time-lapse photography captures frames at predefined intervals and then stitches those individual images together to create a stop frame animation which creates an illusion of a speeded up passage of time.

The Process
Our job was to set up six time-lapse cameras from different angles to capture as much of the actual construction process as possible. We set the cameras up to shoot one frame every 10 minutes. Kitting out an entire warehouse with individual storage units is no mean feat, and the film shows just how complex the process really is – and how rewarding it is to see it all come together! We also had the opportunity to test a brand new 4k camera whilst creating the time lapse for the Bude Self Storage project. We’re really pleased with the high quality image results which allows for more editing options in post production.
The Magic
For the viewer, the beauty of a construction project time-lapse is to see how the finished scheme happens from start to completion. It all unfolds right before your eyes – just don’t blink in case you miss it.
