A Warm WelcomeÂ
Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves, to remind us how lucky we are to do the job we do. It’s a real privilege to be able to capture, record and document important moments not least when community, history and heritage is at the heart of the of the story. A warm welcome was certainly aplenty in Newlyn, Cornwall when we were commissioned to create a short film for Historic England to demonstrate the important restoration work they had funded in the towns old harbour. And as the sun set we were invited to join locals for a fish supper of paella and ale to celebrate the new lease of life for the ancient quay.

The Heart of A Community
Newlyn’s grade II listed old harbour is at the heart of this West Conwall fishing port. First built in medieval times, circa 1430 and reconstructed several times over the centuries, it’s the jewel in the crown of the modern and much expanded 21st century port which lands more fish than any other in England. And at the centre of all of that is a committed and dedicated community who care deeply about their Cornish heritage, not least a collection of luggers.
A Home for Luggers.Â
Cornish luggers are working boats used to bring home the catch for over 250 years. The restoration project on the old harbour has meant  there’s now a permanent home and shelter for some of these historic vessels. If you’ve never seen them, they are beautiful, full of character and colour, and magnificent to watch under sail. When you’re gifted with such stunning vistas and filming opportunities, great people and perfect weather, this is the moment you feel grateful to be doing the best job in the world. Don’t just take our word for it, see the results for yourself on Historic Englands Instagram feed.
