And this is an important event in Plymouth’s calendar as, once again, huge numbers of visitors turned up. People are intrigued by the story of the Titanic, and old and young alike, found out more.
Titanic Exhibition 2017
Significantly, the Duke of Cornwall Hotel hosted the exhibition. And this marks the relationship between it and those rescued from the Titanic.
In fact, some of the rescued staff stayed at the hotel. 167 staff from the ill-fated ship landed in Plymouth. And many had to sleep in makeshift beds at Millay Docks. Whereas, twenty stewardesses were luckier and spent their first nights onshore somewhere more prestigious:
In our video, the organiser, Nigel Voisey, explains:
“They faired better, they stayed at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel….”
That’s why the Duke of Cornwall Hotel was the perfect place to hold the exhibition. And for visitors, there were lots of things to see and do. Firstly, visitors could see the fascinating White Start Line artefacts on show.
Then, they could experience a little of what life was like onboard the ship (even the sounds). And some visitors even tried on the uniforms worn by the crew. Nigel Voisey was on hand throughout the exhibition to share his in-depth knowledge.
