Here at Soundview we created the latest video for the History Centre which explains what inspired Ropewalks. Based on true events, Ropewalks is a brand new, really exciting way to understand the heritage of Plymouth’s Barbican. Sara Norrish, Learning Development Officer, Plymouth City Council.
Interactive history
In fact, Ropewalks allows people to experience some of the `more interesting’ aspects of the Plymouth Barbican’s past on a walking tour. While they visit historic sites, actors recall what life was really like. Actors share tales from Drake’s voyages to the creation of Plymouth Gin; the Bread Riots to the county’s oldest bakery: Jacka Bakery. Yes, Ropewalks really takes visitors on a journey to the past.
Our Video Shows How it All Came Together
Filmed in the Barbican Theatre, our video features those involved in creating the project. As they explain the inspiration, we learn how it has evolved. Firstly, we see the actors as they work with the script. Next, we hear from the writer Jon Nash and later the designers. Finally, we learn how a walk through buildings and locations became a truly interactive experience. Plymouth’s Barbican is full of rich history and interesting, older buildings. Be sure to watch our video in order to see exciting artefacts
