Trebah amphitheatre is a new venue for outdoor performances that opens this Summer. Trebah Garden is tucked away in a secluded and sheltered corner of one of the most beautiful parts of Cornwall, and as is a great place to visit with its beach on the Helford river. But now there is even more reason to visit with this fantastic theatre built into a hillside in the garden.
Of course, given the location, we had to use our drone to capture aerial video of the venue; it really gives a sense of how the theatre fits into the beautiful estate.
This year’s first performance will feature the Miracle Theatre from Cornwall in The Magnificent Three a gun-toting, a yee-hawing comedy western and is performed over five nights from 9 June 2015. The first turf for the Amphitheatre at Trebah Garden was cut early on the morning of Wednesday 15th Nov 2012. Local theatre company Miracle also opened the project with a performance of “The Tempest” on the 29th of August 2014.
“The inspiration for an exciting new feature for the garden, that also provides a space for performing arts at Trebah Amphitheatre, arose after the area was cleared of Rhododendron Ponticum with a grant from the Forestry Commission several years ago. A new path was created through the Chilean Coomb, a small valley then runs in a westerly direction off the main arterial path down through the garden to the sea. At the head of this valley, the amphitheatre was created- it is within a natural bowl at the top of the Chilean Coomb and fits well into the topography of the garden.”
