As 2021 draws to a close, we wanted to reflect on the highs and lows this year has brought and what exciting adventures lie ahead in 2022.

2021 will of course be remembered for lockdowns, restrictions and uncertainty. Where Covid left off in 2020, it continued into 2021. But thanks to the vaccination programme things aren’t quite as bleak. Despite all this, we’ve expanded our work in the realm of 360/VR with dome experiences, worked at some amazing destinations and even had a royal visit!

Be it from home or the office, we continued working throughout the pandemic and here are some highlights that the team has picked out.

Welcome to Cornwall

“For me, the highlight had to be creating brand new content for Visit Cornwall to share with a global audience, which coincided with the G7 circus arriving in the county. Although international travel hadn’t opened up, it was a perfect opportunity to showcase a world-class destination to overseas markets. These films will be invaluable as we go into 2022 and 2023 as travel begins to return to pre-pandemic norms. I enjoyed filming with shanty group Stunsls on Mevagissey Harbour – a tonic as we emerged from lockdown and the economy whirred back into action.” Gareth Allen, Managing Director

Hovercraft

“My highlight was messing around in boats, well Hovercraft to be precise. In the late summer, we were asked to create a marketing film for an innovative new craft being tested here in Plymouth. With a drone in the sky, action cams on the water and a camera crew on the shore, we had every angle covered. This made for a stunning and high octane film.” Chris Dewar, Director of Post Production

The Box

“I think my highlight was only my second day working for Soundview. We were at The Box filming for a new art installation by Camille Walala, when we get news that HRH Princess Royal would be in attendance. This was completely unexpected and as the only camera crew there, we got the privilege to film her arrival. I couldn’t believe my luck, no two days are ever the same here!” Chloe Wardle, Creative Digital Content Producer

New Team Members

Right towards the end of the year, we invested in a new media server to beef up our post-production capabilities. With this, we welcomed our newest member of the team Jamie who has been busy digitising and cataloguing our vast video library.

“My time at Soundview so far has already taught me so many hands-on experiences that I couldn’t have gained anywhere else. I feel privileged to see the behind the scenes footage of so many incredible projects and whilst there’s a lot to organise, I got to see things nobody has for years or have forgotten about.”

“The new server really is the latest state of the art technology and I know it’s going to make things so much more efficient for us. I am finding it so interesting learning how to use the systems and how beneficial it can be. The server is challenging to get your head around, but working on organising that vast array of data, is something I look forward to every day. The team are great to work alongside and have welcomed me and made me feel right at home.” Jamie Venter, Media Management Assistant

Looking into 2022, in January we’ll be launching our new website, so watch this space. We’ve got a whole host of exciting projects lined up, news of which we’ll be sharing with you in our regular blog posts and social media.

From everyone at Soundview Media, have a safe and wonderful happy new year!
