To be honest, when I started my work experience with Soundview in July, I didn’t expect that to mean I would be hurtling down England’s longest zip wire. Soundview were in Cornwall to video SkyWire, Hangloose Adventure’s first accessible zip wire and I was with them to help on the shoot. When I was asked to actually appear in the film, I had no idea what to expect. But I had great fun, in fact I found the experience exhilarating!
SkyWire, the Accessible Zip Wire
As I approached SkyWire there was a woman coming off the ride who said that “It was more fun than Alton Towers!” Her comment was not wrong! After all, with SkyWire overlooking the Eden Project the views are hard to beat. Once on the launch platform and safely harnessed, I was ready to fly. With a Go Pro attached to my safety helmet, I was able to capture some great shots all in one take. Gliding over the domes really made me appreciate what it’s like to have the air to myself which gave me a feeling of freedom. Mixed in with that was the adrenaline that sets in even though you are completely safe! It was certainly the highlight of my work experience in July. One I won’t forget. It made a good week even better because I had an opportunity to mix work and fun!
Easy Access
The final video explains how everyone can use SkyWire. As for the accessibility, it was refreshing to be able to experience something like this as a wheelchair user. Sometimes opportunities like going on a zip wire are few and far between. It means that even more people can enjoy the thrills on offer at Hangloose. Brian, the owner of Hangloose, said “this was just the start of his accessible rides.” So there may be more adventures soon!
