But there is no doubt that the dishes have been associated with the region for some time. I bet if you asked someone to name a food from Cornwall, then those two would be amongst the top three ( see below for the third)!
And of course, the ingredients in each of the dishes do not have to travel far either. In the case of the pasty, it contains good Cornish beef and locally sourced vegetables. And with the Atlantic surrounding Cornwall, of course, the fish is locally sourced for the stargazer pie.
Cornwall a Foodies’ Heaven
Cornwall has a great reputation for food excellence. It not only provides fresh ingredients via its fishing and farming but has also been home to a number of top chefs and restaurants such as Rick Stein, Nathan Outlaw and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant.
More and more visitors to Cornwall know that they can expect quality. And they don’t just find it in certain villages such as Padstow.
Best Cornish Food Videos
We were asked to make these films for Visit Cornwall to celebrate the traditional dishes. Each video had to show how to make the dish in the most traditional way. Each video features a local chef. Jason Jobling shows how to make a Cornish pasty at the Pasty Championships held annually at the Eden Project, Cornwall.
And he should know. His family have been making pasties in St Just Cornwall since 1860. Warrens are the oldest pasty makers in the world! Our other chef, Sanjay Kumar, has worked in a number of high profile restaurants throughout Cornwall and explains the traditional recipe for stargazer pie.
Each video shows the skills that go into making the perfect dish, using local ingredients and the result: delicious!
