Lucky Us: Cornwall Tourism Awards and Gold Medals

Now its not often we drop names, but this week at the Cornwall Tourism Awards we were lucky enough to share a table with Cornish superstar and Olympic gold medallist Helen Glover. Helen gave an inspiring speech at the event.  Not only that, but she also kindly let us hold her gold medal. And we must confess to being  a little star-struck. Helen grew up in Cornwall, and played a number of sports for the region  before she went on to break records and win medals in rowing.  It was a great evening  and  a great way to celebrate Cornish achievements.

The Cornwall Tourism Awards

The evening celebrated excellence in Cornish tourism. Soundview were category sponsors for the Active and Sporting Experience awards. Of course, it’s a real accolade to win an award. Those that enter undergo months of assessment and visits. Competition is fierce, with 180 entries in total. But we are really pleased to announce that the Gold medal winners were  Lanhydrock, with silver going to  Newquay Activity Centre and Scilly Seal Snorkelling. All winners offer visitors extraordinary experiences. From off road cycle trails, coasteering, surfing to swimming with the local wildlife, they really deserve their awards

Other winners on the night included the Screech Owl Sanctuary, picking up the prestigious Winner of Winners trophy. And all award winners will be fast tracked into  the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2018 and possibly invited to represent Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the 2018 National VisitEngland Awards. Awards organizer Robin Barker introduced the evening saying:

“These awards are not about being good.  They are about excellence in what is one of the world’s largest, fastest growing and most innovative industries.  To be a winner, in a destination with the standing of Cornwall, is something winners should take great pride in.”
