Firstly, we documented the closing of Plymouth’s museum and art gallery. Next, film a momentous occasion at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel.
Duke of Cornwall Hotel Making History Video
The Duke, as it’s affectionally known, is steeped in history. The staff at the hotel are very proud of this. So to celebrate the wedding ceremonies and receptions that have taken place over the decades, The Duke of Cornwall invited couples who had spent their special day at the hotel. They enjoyed an afternoon of reminiscence and nostalgia.
Happily, Soundview was there to capture some of those memories. The longest married couple at the event were wed in 1959.
We’ll do the maths for you – that’s 57 years of marriage. Couples from every decade since were at the event, comparing dresses, cars, cakes and stories of joy and laughter.
Of course, capturing these memories on film helps the hotel and the city to celebrate and remember Plymouth’s rich history. And let’s face it, the city was a very different place in the 1950s.
Then, Plymouth was still recovering and being rebuilt after the second world war. It was established in 1863 and is one of few of Plymouth’s older buildings to survive The Blitz. The Duke of Cornwall was Plymouth’s first luxury hotel, which really is worth celebrating.
