A huge welcome to Kelsey, our Climate Impact Intern, over the coming months Kelsey will be advising us on how to reach carbon net-zero. She’s hit the ground running and Soundview is already taking carbon reduction measures.
Introducing Kelsey
“When I saw the job description for the internship at Sound View Media, I’d just completed an essay about the role of media in environmental activism and politics. The timing seemed too coincidental and I thought why not investigate a bit further. The name itself, Creative Climate Impact Intern, is a statement showing that creativity, the environment and people are interconnected and as such can be integral towards creating a net-zero world. This intrigued me as many people do not associate a net-zero journey as being people orientated and creative. Further, Sound View tells the stories of the many amazing people and businesses doing great things for the environment. As such, I thought why not help them create their own journey to net-zero story so that they are pro-environment both on and off-screen.”
“As I grow older, I continue to notice the global lack of genuine appreciation for the planet and each other. This is disheartening for me, especially growing up in arguably one of the most blessed tropical islands in the world. It is the very reason I chose to study Geography and International Relations at the University of Plymouth. These three years broadened my knowledge and fostered my interests in sustainable transitions, sustainable businesses and human-environment interactions.”
“With zero expectations, off to the interview, I went. Meeting Gareth and Chris, I immediately felt welcomed. Their passion for what they do was evident and the level of love and respect for the environment, community and each other, made me even more excited about the job. Walking out of the interview, entering the elevator with Jamie, Gareth runs up and says you got the job. Standing in shock while the elevator doors closed in impeccable timing I knew I was up for the challenge.”
“It is my hope that during my time here at Sound View, I can help the team become more eco-conscious, create a net-zero plan not only for productions but the business itself and build a way forward for a more sustainable earth. Every action is a pixel in the bigger picture! Personally, I hope to grow as a sustainability champion, improve my communication and report writing skills and meet various amazing people from all walks of life. This experience is the start of what’s next not only for Sound View but for me. Laughing with my mum recently, I joked about how I grew up around a media company and somehow avoided studying any aspect of media yet landed my first internship at a media company. Who would have thought!”
We look forward to the next three months with Kelsey and hope to share some of her research and findings with you soon, keep an eye out!
