Pop of Colour and Royal Visit at The Box Plymouth

Soundview was fortunate to not only film the arrival of a royal visit from HRH The Princess Royal but interview renowned artist Camille Walala on her new artwork outside of The Box, Plymouth!

New Artwork and Royal Visit

The new artwork from Walala is called ‘Putting Things In Perspective’, a colourful sculpture that plays with the visuals of 2D and 3D. It really is eye-catching, and something both The Box and Walala hopes brings joy and uplifts those who encounter it, it was no surprise to find out about a royal visit.

When asked about the work, Camille spoke about how last year’s lockdown allowed her to slow down with her work, take the time to experiment and play and really enjoy what she was creating. This allowed her to start playing with optical illusions and in turn, create the sculpture.

What was unexpected was the royal visit from Princess Anne. She had arrived for a visit to the museum and had an impromptu conversation with Walala about her work. Walala was just as shocked as us but we are very grateful to have been there to film the event.

An all-around exciting day for us, one that won’t be forgotten anytime soon!

You can view Camille Walala’s work at The Box from the 15th of July to the 5th of September.
