Pickle Time Plymouth History Centre

Yes, that’s right. Our most recent video shows the Plymouth Museum collection of exhibits preserved in formaldehyde and alcohol. The collection is extensive and dates back to the 1880s. Curator, Jan Freedman, explains that the exhibits are moving. Because the Museum and Art Gallery are undergoing a major construction project. Consequently, the exhibits and stores need to be relocated temporarily.

The relocation is part of a larger ‘decant’ which sees all of the Museum and Art Gallery stored until the reopening in 2020. There will then be a purpose-built extension of the existing Museum and Art Gallery building. Here, all of Plymouth City’s cultural artefacts will be under one roof. This will be part of the Mayflower 400 celebrations.
