Set to be unveiled in 2020 to commemorate 400 years since the Mayflower, the visitors centre will celebrate Plymouth’s rich history.
Tucked Away
We were able to film behind the scenes and capture some of the collection that there simply isn’t space to display to the public. We got to see treasures tucked away from public eyes that will hopefully see the light of day when Plymouth History Centre opens.
The video gives the reasons behind the planned transformation and connects the audience with the living history project Love Our Past.
Plymouth History Centre
The visitors centre will be located between Plymouth University and Plymouth College of Art and will form the heart of a developing Cultural Hub. Plans include:
An archive for Plymouth and the southwest, a museum with stories of Plymouth, a location for contemporary art exhibitions and major touring shows, a new tourism attraction showcasing treasures to visitors and heritage and a cultural centre.
Emerging plans include the refurbishment of space in the existing Grade II listed museum and library buildings with a contemporary extension to the rear, plus St Luke’s Church in Tavistock Place.
