By 2020 there will be a multimillion-pound public space where all of Plymouth’s historical collections will be exhibited together.
Plymouth History Centre Progress Report
The current video production shows progress and preparations prior to vacating the buildings to enable construction to commence. This includes Plymouth Central Library’s relocation. Of course, all of the books needed to move to their new home. Next, the Art gallery had to wrap its collections to ensure they are safely stored until they move into the new History Centre. And we were there to record each step so far.
Throughout Soundview worked with the History Centre to ensure we explained the steps clearly. In addition, we used graphics. Chris, our Director of Post-Production created a timeline that explains the process so far. This visual guide will help demonstrate the chronological order of the developments. Subsequent videos will document further developments. The resulting video collection will explain all of the stages of preparation and eventual completion of the History Centre.
Video as a Record
It’s appropriate that there is a record of the process and what better way to ensure that than to capture video? The videos help demonstrate exactly what it takes to realise a project of this scale. There are hundreds of employees and volunteers involved in making the move to new premises (either permanent or temporary).
The eventual outcome will mean that all of Plymouth’s significant historical collections will be more easily accessible in one centre. This includes the collections belonging to Plymouth City Museum and Art gallery as well as the South West Film and Television Archive. Our Plymouth video production team are really pleased to be involved with this exciting project.
