And it was a nice surprise to see the conference opened with one of our videos. Shown by Jonathan Morcom, the hotel’s owner, we filmed the video this summer. It promotes The Duke of Cornwall Hotel and the City of Plymouth as a fantastic tourist destination. So this set the tone for an event celebrating what Plymouth has to offer to visitors.
Plymouth’s Tourism & Visitor Economy Conference 2017
It was really great to see the room full of local businesses as well as national organisations such as Visit England and Visit Britain. Everyone was there to support the Tourism and Leisure industry. Adrian Vinken ‘Destination Plymouth’ Chairman described Plymouth as becoming a “Vibrant destination …to the wider world.” In fact ‘Making the Most of our Opportunities” was the theme of the afternoon: how WE can appeal as a destination internationally. Especially as Plymouth has an exciting date coming up in 2020 – The Mayflower400. This event will mark the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower leaving UK waters from Plymouth for America.
Mayflower 400 | The Box Plymouth
As opportunities in tourism go, you can’t get much bigger than the Mayflower400. This anniversary means a lot to people on both sides of the Atlantic, culturally and historically. With 2020 cruise bookings already being made, we are set to see Plymouth packed with visitors. Good news for the Tourism Industry. Plenty of plans have been made to mark this great occasion and we’ve been lucky to be involved with some of them. For example, our work with The Box Plymouth is all part of the lead up to 2020. Our part in this project is to digitally document the transformation of the City’s museum and art gallery as it prepares for its 2020 unveiling.
Keep a look out for other events around the city, including The Illuminate event at Royal William Yard later this November to support #GetOnBoard2020. See some of our videos of what’s been happening around the city here:
