This press call was for the return of the Cornish Big Boy, The Man Engine! With short notice Chris headed down to Geevor Tin Mine . Geevor is the largest preserved mine site in the country and the key centre within the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. What a fantastic location on a cold crisp night to shoot and produce a promotional video for The Man Engine.
The brief was to produce a promotional film and B-roll, which went out worldwide to press and news outlets the morning after the shoot. The video shoot had its challenges. Chris had to make sure he was in the right spot to get the best shots when he captured the “Afterdarker”. With pyrotechnics going off it was imperative to work safely. Chris worked alongside other press, cast, crew and not to mention the 11.2 metre mechanical Man Engine!
Getting back to the edit suite at 11pm Chris produced two edits, one a short teaser video and the other B-roll content. All delivered at 2:30 am ready for the morning promotional push.
The monumental Man Engine – the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in the UK prepares to start his Resurrection
The colossal global phenomenon, The Man Engine, is the UK’s largest mechanical puppet. The National Lottery voted him Best Arts Project in 2017. Powered by Volvo Construction Equipment, The Man Engine is ready to reach for the skies. He kicked off his Resurrection Tour at Geevor Tin Mine, Cornwall. And he is all set to blaze a trail right across the UK. The Man engine will visit other iconic industrial heritage and events sites, including Heartlands in Camborne and the Royal Cornwall Events Centre, Wadebridge. Then he heads up to the gateway of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, Tavistock, before travelling on up to Radstock in Somerset. He will also be making various stops in South Wales before appearing in Shropshire, Yorkshire and Durham.
He performed against the backdrop of the Geevor Tin Mine Head Gear on Saturday. The Man Engine transformed to his full 11.2 metre height at 2pm in a new ‘Afternooner’ ceremony. During the first ever ‘Afterdarker’ ceremony at 8.30pm, he reached for the stars. There, he was accompanied by a specially composed soundtrack by Jim Carey, spellbinding showgoers with a spectacular performance of epic high jinks and stunning new pyrotechnics. Sparks flew in this brand new show for 2018.
