Business large and small will be participating today. Any company involved will need to make a commitment to improve the customer experience, such as:
Complete an Online Accessibility Audit
Complete a Site Access Audit to improve the physical space
Provide customer service training to help your staff confidently communicate with disabled people
Improving training and awareness
Learn British Sign Language, even just a few key phrases
Formalising quiet hours, to support customers with Autism
Soundview have committed to making sure the Soundview office and the building we are based in has good accessibility. So far we have looked at access into and around the building. We are working with the building owners to improve this for our customers and clients.
Reasons to be a part of Purple Tuesday
If we need a reason to make our customer experience better (and I am sure we would all want to) the organisation behind Purple Tuesday have published some interesting statistics. Across the UK, the Purple Pound – the consumer spending power of disabled people and their families – is worth £249 billion and is rising by an average of 14% per annum. Worldwide, the Purple Pound equates to a staggering £2.25 trillion, yet less than 10% of businesses have a targeted plan to access this disability market.
Disability Confident
For the past two year Soundview have been part of the Disability Confident scheme. This campaign, which supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace, is run by Gov.UK. We are one of over 14,000 organisations that have signed up to be Disability Confident. Because these organisations have committed to make a change, they are reaping the benefits of inclusive recruitment practices. Benefits such as:
Draw from the widest possible pool of talent
Secure high quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hard working
Improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that you treat all employees fairly
A commitment to being a Disability Confident employer also helps customers and other businesses identify leaders who are committed to equality in the workplace. At Soundview we want a workplace that is welcoming to all, whether employee or customer, and that’s what we are working towards.
