The Transformation at Plymouth’s Heart

This, the latest of our update videos for The Box, shows the team making progress on the multimillion pound investment at Plymouth’s heart. The Box is the transformation of Plymouth’s existing Art Gallery and Museum into one major cultural hub. A place where visitors can experience Plymouth’s rich past under one roof. And the grand opening will be in 2020, to concide with the Mayflower 400th anniversary, when Plymouth will host a massive celebration of this key moment in history.

Meanwhile the Museum and Art Gallery staff are still hard at it, sharing their knowledge and resources with the public. The ‘ Museum on Tour’ programme makes sure that exciting exhibitions continue in the city. Including the latest, “We the People are the Work”.

Timelapse Video

Since 2015, we have been digitally documenting the progress of the project. All of our videos provide a record of key moments in the transformation: from packing up the museum, to the launch of the brand The Box, and to the fantastic events held throughout the city, such as Ropewalks.

As part of this record, we have also created a series of regular videos of behind the scenes construction work. For these, we have  installed our timelapse camera in different locations on the construction site. This clever invention records footage from one particular spot over a long period of time.  Obviously this involves some decisions about where the camera goes. We might sometimes find ourselves up scaffolding or cranes for this kind of work. But its always worth it. What you end up with is weeks of work reduced to a few minutes of footage from fantastic viewpoints.

Most recently, we have set one up in St Luke’s. This chapel, originally constructed in 1828,  sits behind the Museum and Art Gallery. A site where the congregation of Charles Church gathered after its destruction in the 1941 blitz, it has particular historic significance. And our camera will capture the changes to a building that will continue to be part of Plymouth’s future as well as its past.

But what does this mean for our client?

Available to watch online, our videos explain the changes and the vision behind the project. For our client they  are a resource that allows everyone to see what is happening at the heart of the city. But ultimately they will form part of a legacy where future generations will understand how their city has evolved See our blog: CREATING A VIDEO LEGACY FOR THE BOX
