The Story So Far

As The Box Plymouth prepares to open its doors to the public, we have created a video that tells their story so far. The video celebrates four years of hard work that has gone into the achievement of the multi-million pound cultural centre at the heart of Plymouth.

The Story So Far

The Box is the transformation and extension of Plymouth’s Museum and Art Gallery. Within its walls will be six impressive collections, each a testament to Plymouth’s rich historical past. The project is near completion, but there have been many steps to get to this point.’The Story So Far’ video shows some of the key moments in the development of the site. From the day the doors on the museum closed in 2016 and demolition started, through packing exhibits and taking them ‘on tour’, to the arrival of some of the larger exhibits ready for the day when it re-opens.

Once that big day comes, The Box will provide visitors with a chance to engage with its collections in new and exciting ways. Highlights include a life-size woolly mammoth and Mayflower exhibition. A particular favourite of ours is the interactive globe that charts Plymouth’s nautical history. Of course, we are also very fond of the South West Film and Television Archive collection, which appears in the Media Lab and features our video installation work. Created using archive films collected throughout the South West, this work is displayed on a massive 180 degree big screen and also features our contemporary 360 video footage of Plymouth.

Currently, the team at The Box are adding some finishing touches to the spaces before the smaller exhibits move in. They’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of visitors once government guidelines give them the go ahead. You can find out more and see our video of Behind the Scenes here. We have worked  with The Box Plymouth for four years, capturing those all important stages of work. You can see all of our work for The Box on our Arts and Heritage playlist on YouTube.
