Tintagel Castle is one of England’s most iconic historic sites. For the first time, English Heritage has reinterpreted this important place with a series of outdoor installations. Featuring sculptures and informative panels, visitors will now be taken on a journey into Tintagel’s legendary past as they explore the breath-taking landscape The project gives a full picture of Tintagel’s past – combining the history, archaeology and legends of the site.
Tintagel Castle Aerial Video includes Gallos Sculpture
A highlight of the new interpretation is Gallos (meaning power in Cornish), an eight-foot-tall, bronze sculpture inspired by the legend of King Arthur and the historic kings associated with the castle. Created by artist Rubin Eynon, this slightly larger-than-life-sized figure of a king watches over his island domain, the land ahead of him, the Atlantic sea beyond.
Elsewhere a stone compass points to places across the British Isles connected with the Arthurian legend while stepping stones in the island garden tell the medieval tale of Tristan and Iseult. Crafted from bronze, slate and stone, the materials used reflect Tintagel’s industrial past.
Mystery Face carved into Cliff
Another of the installations stares out at visitors to the beach. Could it be the face of Merlin who legend says rescued King Arthur here at Tintagel? Read our blog to find out more. Find out more about our Plymouth, Devon video production company here.
