As an A level media studies student, I’ve spent a week with Soundview to see how they create their videos. It’s been a busy week doing work experience…
First, I visited a company and showed them how 360 videos are used to market businesses. VR was something I had never tried before, and it was exciting to use the kit, it was amazing!
On another one of the days I recorded sound effects around Plymouth’s Barbican. Recording was not as easy as I thought and you need steady hands as well as perfect weather conditions to get the perfect sound effect. After many attempts I got what I needed.
Next we set out to film in Brixham for England’s Seafood Coast. I was lucky enough to see and grab a photo of a wild seal which was an amazing sight to watch as I had never seen one in the wild before. I also got try the local fish and chips! We filmed on board an old trawler where I got to see how interviews were set up. I also learnt about all of the different cameras and equipment, which was great.
Finally, I observed the edit. Here, I learnt that it wasn’t just about the filming, and how much work is actually done behind the scenes to make videos to a viewing standard. I found out how much skill video editing needed.
What I have learnt
My time with Soundview has been a great insight into what it’s like it is to work within a video marketing company. And as a year 12 student, it has definitely helped me understand what a video marketing company really does. The team here gave me a sense of what it takes to excel at what they do. So, thanks to all of those who let me gain an insight and for the great time and opportunity they have gave to me.
