Visit Cornwall Webinar and More: Making the Most of the G7

The publicity around Cornwall during the G7 was priceless and with the launch of a new website and a Visit Cornwall webinar, Visit Cornwall really made the most of it. To make hay while the sun shone, they launched their new travel and trade portal, aimed at international and domestic audiences. It features lots of fresh content to entice visitors including our new series of videos.  And to mark the launch, they held two virtual events, which featured pre-recorded films from Soundview.

Virtual Media Event Launch

Cornwall has always been a popular holiday destination for UK residents, and many have great childhood memories of a week on a Cornish beach. But while overseas visitor numbers have grown, for some parts of the world, Cornwall may be less well known. So the G7 summit is the perfect opportunity to show the world exactly what Cornwall has to offer.

As the world’s G7 leaders arrived on our shores, Visit Cornwall invited overseas travel press and tour operators to attend one of two online events. Each webinar introduced the region’s highlights giving a taste of Cornwall. The webinars also explained the new travel and trade portal, which is a comprehensive resource. It includes example itineraries, images, information and of course a collection of stunning destination marketing videos,  created by ahem…Soundview.

To make the most of the time online and to help kick things off, we created pre-recorded films for the sessions. One of the formats for the films was an interview between Visit Cornwall’s Chief executive Malcolm Bell and local hospitality providers. Pre-recording took some of the uncertainties out of a live event. To really give that sense of Cornwall, we also created a montage of  highlights, showing that Cornwall is a world class visitor destination.

The events were then followed by  a Q&A session with Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall. It was a really successful event and launch, with attendees from all over the globe. A great use of that G7 opportunity.

New Portal and Videos

With video, images and travel itineraries, the new travel and trade portal offers a one stop shop for travel operators. Aimed at both domestic and international visitors, audiences can discover the range of exciting things to see and do. So whether you are in Tokyo or Tunbridge Wells, you can discover the delights of Cornwall.

The website includes lots of Soundview videos, created for our client in previous years. But Visit Cornwall also wanted fresh film content. There were aspects of Cornwall they knew would attract even more visitors. They also needed films specifically for audiences in the G7 countries. So, working to a tight May deadline, Soundview created 13 new videos.

For just over a month, the team at Soundview scripted, fixed, filmed and edited the thirteen films to coincide with the G7. The locations and shoots varied from multi camera live singing on Mevagissey harbour with local sea shanty group the Stuns’ls, to interviews with celebrity chef Jack Stein. In addition, we created four foreign language films for the G7 countries in Japanese, French, German and Italian. These films explain the connections between Cornwall and the respective countries. Similarly we made a film for American and Canadian audiences, which talks about a shared heritage.

It was an incredibly exciting project to be a part of and we pulled out all of the stops to ensure all of those films were in the bag, and showed Cornwall as a world-class visitor destination.
