The Plymouth Charter
“The Plymouth Charter is about creating a fairer, greener city for everyone. It adheres to our people and planet principles and provides a platform for us to contribute to a better future. ” Gareth Allen, Managing Director SoundView
Why?
Signing up for The Plymouth Charter was a “no-brainer” for us. It aligns with our core values and strives for us to be even better.
- It encourages us to be environmentally responsible, which is something we already try to do and feel so passionate about.
- Provide fair flexible working opportunities, while supporting everyone to develop their skills. A win, win for all!
- Asks us to spend locally and support community activities to improve the quality of life in Plymouth, this is hugely important.
How we’re contributing
These are all measures we are taking and continue to strive to be better at. For example, we are on the road to carbon net zero, one of the ways we are doing this is by creating certified carbon-neutral productions. As a disability-confident leader organisation, we believe that investing in everyone’s talents enriches all our lives and makes what we do better. We run and support community activities including Digital Plymouth and Net(work) Zero Plymouth.

Bringing businesses together
The Plymouth Charter Summit was a way of bringing businesses together to share stories and ideas. At the event, we met Brandon Hulcoop who runs All Things Dotty, a business to improve access and inclusion for visually impaired people. Brandon is blind and faced barriers to accessing work before landing a job with The Department For Work and Pensions. Find out more here
“So much of the world is closed off to us, and this needs to change. Slowly, All Things Dotty is raising awareness, educating and supporting visually impaired people to become more independent, have more of an idea of the beauty of the world, and so much more.” Brandon Hulcoop, Managing Director, All Things Dotty

Conclusion
Brandon’s story reminds us of the discrimination that people with disabilities face, not just in work but in their everyday lives. So if you take away one thing from our blog, then make it to committing to equality, for a fairer future for everyone.
