Finding the right job
It is no secret that finding a job can be really difficult in the current market. I have experienced a range of different jobs before from waitressing to housekeeping, none of which were very friendly towards my limb deficiency. It is really important to have great communication with your employer about how they can, if at all, help with your disability. Any good employer will be more than happy to help you and respect your choices.
What makes SoundView different?
I was specifically drawn to SoundView’s job advert as they clearly stated disability friendly at the top of the advert, which is something you don’t see every day. After talking to Gareth, it was clear that SoundView was pleasantly different from the other employers I was sadly used to. Soundview is a recognised Disability Confident Employer, which we wrote a blog post about that you can discover by following this link.
Being very honest Gareth told me proudly about how he has a disabled son, so was familiar with working alongside disabilities and was more than happy to support a future employee that may need it. Not only has my confidence grown working for SoundView but I have experienced no limitations.
Working in the Creative Sector
There will be things I do need help with or tasks that I can’t do but it is something you have to learn to accept. There is no shame in asking for help and I have never been made to feel a burden or annoyance asking for it, whether it helps to hold a camera or move heavy equipment. Everyone here is supportive no matter what.
