The Disability Confident Organisations play an leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They’re changing behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities, and reaping the benefits of inclusive recruitment practices.
We had to take some steps to move from confident to leader status; From taking on the core actions from Disability Confident Status, we pushed ourselves toward the leader’s objectives and provided evidence of how we are reaching that status.
We have shared stories from Soundview’s own Jamie and how she navigates herself through the job as someone with a disability. You can read that blog post by following this link.
The two key areas to focus on are ‘getting the right people for the business’ and then ‘keeping and developing those employees’. Within these, Soundview must demonstrate what we are doing to reach these targets.
This validation requirement was assessed by Living Options Devon. They are a local charity that ‘ensures that people with disabilities can live the life they choose’. Who would be more perfect than them to assess our commitments!
After receiving feedback and making those adjustments, we have now received our disability leader’s status. Managing Director of Soundview Gareth Allen spoke about receiving this status – “We’re really proud of our disability confident leader award. We know that a diverse workforce enriches all our lives and makes what we do better. If you haven’t already, we would encourage all businesses and organisations to take the first step towards being a disability confident employer, and start reaping the benefits.”
We are extremely proud of all the work that has gone into receiving this status and hope we can keep inspiring and encouraging others to be a part of this amazing scheme.
