Safer Internet Day 2018

This year's Safer Internet Day was another bumper one. On Tuesday 6th February 2018, thousands of schools across the UK found out about online safety. Each year, the Safer Internet Centre provide resources for this important event and Soundview make the videos for the centre's SID TV. The videos play a part in generating discussions about what makes a safer internet, happening the length and breadth of the country.

We are really excited to say that one of these videos, Digital Empathy, will also be shared worldwide by Snap Chat, reaching more people and sharing the message about being safe online.

Our Videos for Safer Internet Day 2018

Millions of young people plus their parents, carers and teachers watch the films. Part of a package of learning resources, the videos feature young people and adults. They talk about `Create, Connect and Share Respect’, this year’s Safer Internet Day focus. The five videos, each aimed at a particular age group, are available online on SID TV. Soundview work with the Safer Internet Centre to make these films. It’s a really exciting and important project and we are pleased to to say this is our fourth year collaborating with the team at SIC.

SID TV

SID TV hosts the videos that are an essential part of the education pack. Each year, the films explore the Safer Internet Day theme. This year the contributors talk about how everyone can play a part in making the internet a better place. And of course its essential the films meet the needs of every audience. So each film is unique.

As well as these films, Soundview produced a series of short promos that were released on social media during the run up to the event. These are a great way to build anticipation and remind everyone of the great day ahead.

Red and Murphy

One of our favourite films to make is the 3-7 year olds’ video. This film features Red and Murphy. And these two puppets have become firm friends and are the best way to communicate a message to young children in a way that is positive and fun.  Everyone at the Safer Internet Centre worked hard to come up with ideas to ensure the films were right for their audience. We interviewed young people and adults across the  country to ensure opinions from all corners of the UK were shared.

And the Safer Internet Centre have worked tirelessly in the run up to the February campaign, securing a hot spot for advertising in the busy and iconic Piccadilly Circus. So it’s no surprise that the numbers participating on this important day are impressive. See our blogs on making this year’s videos and last year safet internet Day too:
